How to choose a good teacher? There are so many language schools, institutes, colleges and English teachers offering their services in Monterrey that sometimes it seems like a virtually impossible task to separate the good from the bad.
Language Institutes have a great advantage in that they are able to employ many teachers. This is ideal when a company is looking for English teachers to give classes to many groups or individuals at a particular time of day e.g lunch time. Obviously a private teacher like myself cannot be in two places at once whereas the language institute is able to send a team of teachers to cover all the needs of the client.
The Disadvantage of using these institutes is that in order to obtain a sufficient number of teachers they are sometimes forced to employ teachers who are not teachers. Sometimes they will contract and advertise native speakers of English, but the truth is the person who arrives at your office to give you classes has absolutely no experience, training and/or qualifications to teach English. On other occasions teachers will be employed whose only experience is to have lived in an English speaking country or in some of the worst cases the teachers are ex students of the very same institute which is now employing them
Private Teachers Of course there are also those private teachers who just want to try their luck. That is those people who are able to speak English to some degree (native and non-native), but who have absolutely no idea how to teach it. Remember it is much better to have a professionally qualified, native speaker with plenty of experience as your teacher.
